The shortlists for this year’s Futurebook Innovation Awards were revealed last night at the Frankfurt Book Fair, with over 220 entries received from 12 different countries for the awards, now in their third year.
Sam Missingham, awards founder, said: “The quality and diversity of the entries has grown hugely. It is very encouraging to see how much creativity is being embraced across the book business.”
RM Books free ebook solution designed specifically for schools has been shortlisted within the Best Technology Innovation category.
RM Books has been created in a way that removes the barriers to schools joining the ebook revolution, allowing them to rent or purchase ebooks from a wide range of leading UK publishers. It works for the whole school, not just the library.
Despite only launching in January 2013, over 5,000 schools in the UK are now signed-up with RM Books.
Not only is it providing schools with an ebook platform that works in a way they are used to working with physical books, but schools are actually finding that it is changing how they use books altogether.
The flexibility and ease of use that RM Books provides means that teachers can actually purchase books and make them available to students ‘during’ a lesson. It is motivating students to read more books and for longer. In fact, a recent study at a leading UK school, Shireland Collegiate Academy, found that 100% of the teachers who used RM Books said it had improved their lessons.
